Description: This photograph, together with Timeshifting Prague, No. 1: Freedom Is Within Reach, launches the series Timeshifting Prague in June 2026. During a recent review of her photographic archive, Avalatara found herself staring at scenes she recognized only now, decades later, through the Bitcoin lens. At first glance, Timeshifting Prague is a series of classic black-and-white photographs, showing scenes from Prague between 1997 and 2005. However, upon closer inspection, small “glitches in the matrix” present themselves in each of the photographs, revealing that Prague’s destiny as the European capital of Bitcoin was written long before Satoshi Nakamoto’s whitepaper. Each photograph of Timeshifting Prague is based on authentic photographs taken on panchromatic black-and-white negative film (35mm format) in the years 1997–2005 and hand-developed by the artist.
